Apartments in Opelika -- Plenty to See, Do, and Taste

Located less than 10 miles northeast of Auburn University and 100 miles southwest of Atlanta, Opelika is the principal city of the Auburn-Opelika Metropolitan Area. Even though Opelika only has about half as many residents as Auburn does, this is a thriving city to live in.

Here's what you'll get to enjoy if you decide to rent an apartment in Opelika:

- Great history

City leaders are working hard to move forward, but if you rent an apartment in Opelika, you'll also get to enjoy a big slice of the past. Opelika's Historic Downtown looks like something out of the turn of the 20th century -- complete with its very own Main Street. The entire district is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, and it's chock full of quaint boutiques, antique stores, and restaurants. This is also where you'll find a number of fun community-wide events, like the annual Christmas parade and Easter on the Square.

- Great shopping

At the junction of I-85 and Highway 280 sits Tiger Town -- the biggest retail center in all of East Alabama. Amongst the one million square feet of space, you'll find dozens of stores, restaurants, offices, and even a few hotels. Just a stone's throw south of Tiger Town, you'll find a Sam's Club. And, if you're willing to head a tiny bit west of the Opelika city limits, the Colonial Mall in Auburn is home to three department stores.

- Great job variety

No matter what you're passionate about, you can find a career doing it in Opelika. In fact, Opelikah as consistently earned awards for being small business-friendly and for being so proactive with business recruitment. The biggest employers here include the East Alabama Medical Center, the Walmart Distribution Center, the Lee County School System, Opelika City Schools, Afni, and Mando America Corporation. And since Opelika is the county seat for Lee County, there are plenty of government jobs just a few minutes from your apartment!

City leaders have spent years planning for big business growth in Opelika, as evidenced by the Northeast Opelika Industrial Park, a 2,200-acre facility right off I-85 that can house a variety of individual businesses.

Also along I-85 you'll see the Fox Run Business Park. It's a smaller site, but it's also home to some big names -- including UPS.

- Great food

No matter what you're craving, you'll be able to find it just a few minutes from your Opelika apartment. Locals here love the coffee at The Overall Company, the gourmet entrees at Café One Twenty Three, and the fun food at Irish Bred Pub.
